In the usual pastel palette of spring, I find sienna especially interesting this year! Shades ranging from rusty burnt-orange to warm taupe (left; via the very useful site who what wear) here together with a lovely sienna-ish wall, right, from the fresh new issue of Elle Decoration.

Spring 2013 Home Decor [and Fashion] Trends

Posted on 2012/11/01 by Mia in boho, Clothes & Shoes, eclectic, globetrotter style, nature & urban farming, SS 2013

Don’t you think it’s time for some Spring 2013 trend spotting? I do! And here’s a first little round, guided by some fabulous SS 2013 catwalk ladies. Firstly, a sophisticated and cool copper/nature style.

According to Formex – one of my usual places to turn to when sniffing for trends – the Spring 2013 interior design is strongly influenced by nature. Shades of white, brown natural tones, wooden surfaces, rattan and other simple, natural materials set the foundation for the fresh new trend theme named ”Fresh”. Above photo from the excellent December 2012 issue of vogue living.

There are colours too – thankfully! This coming season with a new take on the pastel palette. Some soft pastels combined with brighter hues. Like this lovely combo of pink/purple, orange and soft blue (pic via sköna hem). Western chic (pic via hus & hem) is another touch I like. Wood & rattan against a dramatic black backdrop.

This is a hot and interesting colour, I’d say it’s unpolished spicy fudge. Acne fashion leads the way (with pic via bodie and fou). A great linen colour. Colourwise, the pic below left (via vtwonen) also represent a fresh taake on the pastels. Light green, almost pistache, together with grey (almost lilac). Lastly in this round, never underestimate the playful nerd. A great kid’s room decor DIY trick (pic via boligmagasinet) – just paint the hotscoth course on the floor! Creativity rules, still.

Have a lovely November!

Trend Theme Autumn 2012

Posted on 2012/08/09 by Mia in AW2012, fifties retro, nature & urban farming, Wood+Metal

So, as always when a new season is ahead I put my ear against the Formex Fair trend forecasts. Their chosen trend theme for home decor Autumn 2012 is Nordic Charm, which – if you allow me to be a bit sarcastic – both seems and is a bit presumptuous considering Formex a meeting place for Nordic interior design. Then again, Scandinavian and Nordic interior design truly is popular worldwide and has been for a long time. Now Formex mainly stresses the “new” retro feeling that’s sweeping over the world of interior design. A mix of influences from the energy-filled and optimistic 1950s, 60s and 70s. Examples: The low sofas from that era, the wing chairs, the light and round coffee table, patterns & colours…

Not forgetting the mentioning of plant stands. They indeed are a new trend (obvious example in the previous post) Furthermore Formex emphazises fabrics with “a lot of spots, graphic patterns, stylized flowers, leaves and vegetables.” They might have Scandinavian stuff in mind such as Josef Frank’s timeless vegetable tree, but I’m more thinking something like these news from Anthropologie:

Inka, zigzag, ikat, suzani – global patterns!

And a creative take on natural wood and retro style. Burning hot!

Getting back to the Formex trend predictions for the season to come -  they say that in the kitchen we’ll display our attractive kitchen equipment and locally sourced produce on open shelves against tiled walls (check, no doubt) and we? – read Swedes – are “experimenting enthusiastically with traditional Nordic fare, such as oatmeal and smushi”! Now oatmeal porridge is no news – that’s one of the reasons behind Gunde Svan winning 4 Olympic golds in Cross Country Skiing – but do anyone actually think we will have a lot of smushis this Autumn? I.e. a Danish open sandwich given a Japanese sushi twist? Nah. Formex trend predictions are fun, but they only partly make sense.

A Little Green…

Posted on 2012/08/08 by Mia in AW2012, Colour Boosts, Flowers, nature & urban farming

Definitely a colour on the rise. How about this floor, marvellous right?

| via sköna hem |

Very cool, I think! I’m like hypnotized by it. It’s probably not the last brightly painted floor we will see this (coming) season! My guess (and hope) is stained wood will get a whole new meaning *crossing fingers*

And it’s not the first nor the last touch of green in home decor. It’s a lovely accent, especially together with leather/woods/browns.

Why I Every Summer Love Country Style

Posted on 2012/07/24 by Mia in country, Flowers, nature & urban farming, SS 2012

Simple. Country style is summer. Thinking back to my childhood, the clearest memories invlove endless summers, summer houses and Grandma’s strawberry cake. Swimming in a lake or river, rag rugs on the floor and sun shining on the Swedish flag. Freshly-picked flowers all around in vases, and eating vegatables straight from the fields.

OK, I’m not doing a n o t h e r of my summer house dream posts – I’d soon need to change trendey’s name to summerhousey – this is just a nostalgic summery greeting. Happy Summer – and see you soon!

Norwegian Style Decor

Posted on 2011/12/03 by Mia in country, nature & urban farming, scandinavian, SS 2012

Norway gave us Ane Brun – just listen to Du gråter så store tåra and you’ll be spellbound – and what’s more Norwegians are the masters of country style decor. And what best would be described as cozy & contemporary Scandinavian. Very trendy for spring with its pale pastels and wood.

I’m not sure if Norwegian decor’s va va voom factor would have happened without the artistery of Norwegian photographer Trine Thorsen (site/blog). And besides the many Norwegian blogs featuring variations of this style, the interior/lifestyle magazine Lev Landlig is undeniably one of the best in its range.

Blonde wood & wool are crucial elements, and for some reason, so are plates! The colour schemes not seldom include light blues, and other inspiring details of this beautiful fjord country’s style are antlers and fishery equipment.

 Lastly, a Norwegian bedroom nature-style.

Personally, I really really like the Norwegian touch, and especially the more countryish part and the nature inspired details. Many times though, the contemporary Norwegian style is set against an all-white backdrop (white walls and white-painted floors) and that’s the part I like the least. Or well, i can definitely be beautiful to look at, but my feeling is I wouldn’t stand such white interiors in my everyday life – just like I wouldn’t everyday (or anyday!) wear a white suit and white shoes, even if the accessories were cozy :p This pic is an extremely nice example though! Love how the elements are put together. More inspiration on this style can be found at Draumesidene, a blog by the bedroom owner.

Now that’s me. How about you – does Norway inspire you too?
