Masculine Interiors

I have received quite a few questions about male or masculine interiors. How To decorate for a man to feel at home. How to downplay the prettiness and the feminine vibe still keeping it beautiful. Being a believer in personal, gender-unspecific, what-ever-makes-YOU-happy-decor, I have no idea. Honestly. There’s no room for male and female decor in my world. BUT, there has been a bout more typical (stereotyped) masculine interiors lately. So I figure a little round of pics won’t hurt. And hey, just think of all the vintage suitcases and the industrial style. That’s in the masculine compartment isn’t it? The well-travelled globes? Hunted down animal heads? Mostly also the dark painted walls? Blame my (relatively) gender-equality-forward country for not knowing! Here’s a few pics the magazine editors said were masculine :)

The Quirky 2012

Posted on 2012/01/02 by Mia in Art & Illustrations, eclectic, other decor themes, Sofas

Yay, that’s what I wish for in 2012 home interiors. More quirkiness! Unexpected twists, peculiar objects and jawdropping combinations. Here’s some pics from the The Selby, featuring the São Paulo home of Fashion Designer Alexandre Herchcovitch.

How about having a scenery like that behind the sofa? Gorgeousness. Love the weird anatomy doll as well. And actually all of it, the overall colour scheme is magnificent. Next: Madly nice sofa & cushions.

And lastly, words are superfluous. Great vibe – eclectic at its best.

sweet bird of passage, come home to stay

Posted on 2011/03/18 by Mia in Birds & insects, other decor themes

Once again, Stockholm estate agent Fantastic Frank has done something really interesting to a flat for sale. I guess this place could have been just one of the crowd. Unnoticed and sad… But nope, njet no! These birds are moving out of their nest, probably to warmer climes, and any other species are welcome to take over.

Frankatastic creativity! And nix, dunno what that thing on the lovely parquet flooring is ;) Styling and ideas by Maria Wahlström, photography by Anders Lindén. More cool images [and maybe if you want to buy the flat, it's] -> here.

With Japan in mind

Posted on 2011/03/17 by Mia in Kitchen, other decor themes

Our thoughts are of course with the Japanese people in this time of catastrophy and pain. Keeping fingers crossed for the outcome of the nuclear situation. Japanese interior design is worthy of many chapters – and an extra interesting comparison to make would be the one between Japanese and contemporary Scandinavian styles. These styles share the minimalism; the uncluttered clean look, and the preference of natural materials, yet they are totally different in many other aspects. The pics below are from Wabi Sabi Style, a beautiful and highly interesting blog about interior design inspired by the Japanese style Wabi Sabi. Wabi means an object has a rustic simplicity and purity, and possess an understated elegance. Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any visible repairs.

Sustainability, slowness and reflection really do belong in the 2010s leading interior trends. I would also like to highlight one stylish Japanese-inspired kitchen I found at homedecorarcade. Advanced and alluring composition!

The home of Romeo & Juliet

If they were Stockholmers. These are pics from an apartment currently for sale @ Fantastic Frank. We’ve mentioned this exciting new real estate agent before; unlike most other estate agents, Fantastic Frank put great effort and care into showing the character of each abode. The idea is to reach those few potential buyers who love the place, rather than the very many who only like it. By extension, this strategy gives the Stockholm housing market a much needed injection of creativity, diversity and beauty. This time, Fantastic Frank tells a story…

The Arty-Farty Trend

Posted on 2011/02/09 by Mia in Art & Illustrations, other decor themes, SS 2011

Art has always been crucial in interior design. This spring, along with the strong eclecticism and creative pattern- and textile mixing, there seems to be a special arty-farty movement going on in interiors. Art is prominent. Here’s a few of the many inspiring expressions around right now.

Pics via Sköna Hem, Sköna Hem and the lovely bedroom right belongs to Familjen i Uttran. Latest issue of Elle Decor (Feb-March 2011) also feature lots of arty-fart. Look below.
