The botanical trend has been around for a while. We’ve seen botanical prints, botanical wallpapers, textiles and other botanical decorative items. Bees and butterflies have buzzed around. So has owls, birds and some creepy insects. Australian stylist Sibella Court bears some responsibility for the latter (see bottom of pic collection for exemple). The setting for the botanical vibe has to a large extent been green-beige-natural. A bit like this:
Now how, if at all, will this trend theme evolve. Abigail Ahern suggests in an Entomological way. With big fat, delicious looking bugs crafted from vintage and contemporary fabrics sitting on window sills or crawling up walls. In other words, more insects! It is also likely the botanical-entomological will creep into more styles, making a twist or edge to urban and even glamorous/chic styles. Below left are the mentioned ‘delicious bugs’ (soon to be included in the Abigail Ahern collection) and a photo by Damian Russell to the right. Insects sneaking in to fancy rooms…
Update: I now know (thanks a million for commenting!) that the artist of the ultra-cool insects in the photo is Finch. If you check out this site (and the category ‘insects’) you will find so many yummy little lives a warning is hereby issued: if you let too many insects move into your home it may transform into one of an entomologist! ;) And furthermore, under ‘props’ (a huge craving-warning here as well), you will find neat & trendy images including some stylish birdhouses and the next to the last image (with the ships), oh gosh..and I haven’t mentioned the ‘animals’ yet. This is a side-track on beautifulness we’ll surely get back to.
