The Black Wall Syndrome

Posted on 2010/10/25 by Mia in Dark Painted Walls

I can feel it has crept up on me. From having just tickles the diagnosis is now more than clear: I need to paint a room black! It’s just so neat. The syndrome. Forget everything that has been said about black – about its mood-derogatory and size-shrinking effects. Its utter absence of colour is its advantage. Check our category Dark Painted Walls to get the proof! Black makes the boat rock and colours pop. It’s the new white: Replace innocence with power, shift from purity to mystery and skip the fresh cleanliness for sophisticated elegance.

I’ve painted many walls in my house with Farrow & Balls Railings. The dining room is the only room with all black walls. I *love* the black. The walls disappear and it is so very comforting not at all dark and dreary. Everyone who comes to my house are shocked at how much they love it.

I especially like woods with a red tone against a dark wall.

    BTW, love the blog!

Hi and thank you so much for commenting!

That’s very interesting! I actually researched Railings. Didnt find a lot on the web but both Railings and Black Blue seem extremely nice! Good to hear that’s true on Railings.
I think it’s all about courage, blacks aren’t as dangersome as they might seem, quite contrary results are often outstanding (for the brave ones)!

    Hi,

I am looking for some courage…I recently purchased Farrow & Ball’s ‘off black’ and have it sitting in the tin on the floor raring to go, but the problem is my Father will probably go crazy, ha! I am a student but still living at home so…I should probably use the ‘It will make me work better’ trick.

Thank you for your blog, you have found some gorgeous examples! I can’t wait to see my colours ‘pop’ and my taxidermy come to life.
