Swedish L.A

Here’s two sweet pics from Swedish magazine Hus & Hem. As you can tell, the (Swedish) people living here are inspired by Scandinavian simplicity and functionalism, and they actually have Danish ancestry.

Reading magazines, I always find it intersting with the tips & tricks provided by featured people. In this case, their advice is to move slowly with the home decor. They say: Think carefully, both in terms of function and form, before you start changing your home. Be inspired. And think twice if it’s really worth buying expensive things just because of the brand.

The Here And Now

This is my fav pic from Living Etc‘s August 2011 issue. From Sibella Court’s Sydney home.

Described as a look that’s about personality, texture and the here and now. When asked to sum her style she says:

 flotsam and jetsam, globetrotting, bowerbird.

Oh my…I had to google them all! Well not globetrotting – one of the absolute trendiest interior design trends – but I learned flotsam and jetsam is refuse found in the ocean and bowerbord is like an Australian crow (I think). Each day you learn something new! And actually, from Sibella’s style one can learn more than some words. I spotted her new book is out, it’s called NOMAD and looks terribly exciting! Next week I’ll give myself time to read her guide to NYC, on the beach.

crispy white paper art + bright blue

Although I am a crusader for a homey style with lots of charm and knicknacks of personal choice, I’m inspired by this artful crispy white paper plus bright blue kitchen/dining decor scheme. It’s a cloudy soft movement in it.

Some Danish Style Inspiration…

Today it’s time to add some Scandinavian-Danish inspiration to the trendey-stew. I think it’s fair to say the Danish style, generally, is more creative and funky than its Swedish/Stockholmish counterpart. The Danes generously add colour splashes and charm to the white (or light) backdrop. I’m inspired by the homey atmosphere this brings and cherish the humour; the play with proportions and the carefree mixing.

Spring 2011:s most interesting colour: Carrot

Hello and extremely welcome to trendey.com! Here’s me, Mia, sitting in my home office bringing you the bestest of interor decorating trends and tricks ;) Well some, like my mother, say it’s true :) Today’s topic is the most interesting though slightly hidden trend colour of spring 2011: Carrot. Let’s just say carrot, it’s the hues somewhere between pink coral and traditional orange. Somewhat yellowish pink-red. It’s an interesting new spark I’ve noticed lately, that goes extremely well with the sandy [new-white] base. I will use the sand and carrot combo myself in our bedroom so pics will be coming from that – but for now, an illustration of this too-hot-to-be-true spring colour:

| apart from the carrots and a spring 11 fashion Pantone colour sample – there are pics from Danish Bolig and Lonny Magazine Jan/Feb 2011, (bottom right) |
