A nice kitchen!

This kitchen, featured by Sköna Hem, is similar to my idea of the dream kitchen. If you disregard the floor (I’d want either a nice tile floor or a rougher wood floor) and ignore the dining seating (I’d go for something similar to my previous post, added a sizeable kelim rug) – and – this is crucial – add the missing (or at least not viewable) stove, a big lavish signature piece (some delicious examples in my other kitchen post) Ok, and just one more thing: I’d take another colour (maybe black) of the fridge and overall spice it up a bit with e.g an unframed painting, some vintage items and a sweeping curtain. Now we’re about there.

A kitchen that’s spacious, functional and yet simple and not excessively expensive; the kitchen furnishing including the kitchen island in this pic is apparently from IKEA. Ok, now I just need a house ;)

Eclectic Auction Ahead

August 25th, a really cool auction is opening its display at Swedish auction house Bukowskis. It’s called Eclectic and presents a wide range of objects inspired by the decades around 1900, the golden era of great adventure and when the old world transformed into the new industrialism.

As my sample below shows, this auction contains a daring mix of old and new, mahogany and steel, handicrafts and industry. The border between the centuries is blurred and the line between what is considered beautiful and ugly is questioned. Because, this auction wants to inspire cross-border decor or might I say, out-of-the-box decor. Through the themes conservatory, industrial and adventure Bukowskis aims to capture the contemporary dualism and ruined romanticism as well as industrial exploration and progress.

Browse the full auction here. If you happened to fall in love with any of the pieces featured above and want to know how the estimation on how big the hole in your wallet will be, a link list of featured items can be found if you

Unframed, unhanged portraits

The August 2010 edition of Bolig Magasinet features the home of Danish designer Sofie Schnoor. This functionalist villa near Copenhagen is decorated the Danish way; sleek Scandinavian with lots of creativity and charm. One eye-catching decor feature is the meter-high photos of the children standing (not hanging!) here and there. In the hallway, on a cabinet and as a focal point in the dining room. This is a very nice, and trendy, extension of the photowall feature combined with the oh so hot unframed paintings style. Personalized decor at its best!

If I Had A House….

…right now, that I could decorate (oh a summer house, I wish!) I would use these pics for inspiration. A mix of classic, elegant, vintage charm and with an eclectic vibe.

I might add a bit more colour, and a bit less country style…Love the mix thou, especially in this upper pic.

As for details, the old charmig unframed granny-style paintings are übertrendy. So are the lovely flower arrangements. I would go for a lot more flowers!!

Lastly on this tour, a white bedroom with a twist. I would choose a bedroom more of this style, but I like the simplicity with complex details.
