With some photos from our little casa. I demolished our poster wall, just a few months after the collection was finished (you know it’s not the goal that’s worthwhile- it’s the trip!), and two of the posters got a new place next to the TV – together with some good - and good-looking - decor books. I really find those shelves useful, IKEA’s ‘LACK’; because of their concealed fittings). Now that’s the most Scandi-white part of our home. Below, the Easter tulips are in full bloom. Chairs are on their way to form a nice odd chair mix – together with that lovely House Doctor chair. So far, I’ve decided on two vintage Eames (one elephant grey, one ochre coloured) and maybe one green iron chair…

Now I’ve joined the same busy boat as Henen – redecorating my own home! It’s great fun now going from planning to action especially when it comes to the bedroom that will be transformed from white to beige but far far far from beige in atmosphere…Will prove beige (as backdrop) need not be blah! Another part is our dining area will be spiced up with a larger dining table and mix of six interesting chairs. Overall more homey/quirky knick-knacks will be added around as we’ve just cleaned out my grandparents’ old house. Very exciting process indeed! Results will show up here later on – and maybe some issues encountered along the way – and for now, here’s the good ol’ posterwall; on its way to a new look. Stay tuned :)

Chalk White – The Challenger

My local newspaper, Södermalmsnytt, reports that as for paint hues Stockholm White is still a best seller. One paint shop in the neighbourhood sells 27 600 litres of Stockholm White paint per year. Of those living in Stockholm’s inner city, eight out of ten is estimated to have this wall colour. It is acknowledged as the best wall colour when to sell your city apartment. However nicotine-yellow it may be accused of. Now, a challenger has entered the scene. An extremely white; whiter than white and matter than matt. Dazzling white like nothing else! Or well, like a pair of bleached teeth! They call it Chalk White. An anti-colour, a blank slate background to fill with decor. It’s approx. NCS S-0300N.

Personally, I think this is and will be a mayfly. A December-fly, nothing for 2011. If anything, this colour is cold. And the weather in Sweden…..? Yupp, half the year it’s below 50 degrees F, winter time it sometimes goes down to zero F and stays. Right now there is a layer of snow all over this elongated country. To get a warming comforting vibe inside one will need to struggle hard with Chalk White on the walls. To keep business going Alcro (i.e. one of the biggest Swedish paint suppliers) at the same time released – or will be in Jan 2011 - a whole new collection of whites “for those of you who think white is not white and who do not want chalk white”, the ad.white collection with 11 paint colours titled chalk, snow, cream, garlic, etc…

Since we report on trends I needed to tell you this, you need to know Sweden is stuck in pure white misery. A never ending white story. You might understand betten than why Trendey celebrates the dark, the boho and the eclectic! :)

Which Stockholm Style Do You Prefer?

We’ve featured some hot Stockholm apartments lately and it’s now time for this weekends poll! Question is: which of these trendy styles do You prefer? White or boho? The Stockholm White Style needs no further introduction I think, one extremely well-represented almost iconic example is the Rapace’s apartment. Scandinavian all-white with an (industrial) edge. Alongside, we have the Stockholm Bohemian Style, of which this apartment, and this, are eminent examples. Two main characteristics are the bold colour choices ( dark painted walls) and a personal mix of things, often vintage finds, and a retro-touch.

Sunday Evening Update: Wow, that’s an interesting result! 55 votes: 29 for boho, 26 for white. Even Steven! Trendey readers are split between favouring the Scandinavian white edgy style and the darker bohemian.Or, you fancy them both and blind picked :) Either way, this shows both white Scandi and boho-styles are of interest to you. And that’s great, because we like both styles.

The Swedish acting couple Ola and Noomi Rapace, now in divorce, are selling their Stockholm apartment. Bidding is underway on this perfect white home. A superstar role model for Stockholm interior style.

I just love Ola Rapace as Hoffa in the TV-series Tusenbröder, and as for Noomi Rapace’s portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in the Millennium Trilogy, words are superfluous. Not surprised their (former) home is deadly Stockholm stylish.

Stockholm-White Paint

Every now and then we get questions about the colour “Stockholm-White”. Is it called Stockholm white because all homes in Stockholm are painted white or is it actually a colour? Both alternatives are correct :) I wrote about it in this post, about a year ago, when investigating the Stockholm interior style on my hunt for an apartment to buy. Now there is no absolute agreement on the colour code, but many paint sellers hold it is NCS 0502-Y. A standard colour in Sweden or simply a broken white, with a bit of yellow added. A warmer white. Also called Antique White. To be even more specific the suggested colour is 5% black, 2% yellow and 93 % pure white. To summarize the debate on the perfect wall-white, some holds Stockholm-white to be too yellow, and call it “chain smoker-white”. However, most Swedes agree a straight white is too cold, it’s like living in a snow-hut.

The product sample? Well, take any real estate ad from Stockholm City really. There’s lots to choose from. I closed my eyes and picked this kitchen from an attic apt listed for sale at Mäklarhuset.

…and you know Henen, she’s decorating – or rather refurbishing - her new London house right now and hasn’t sorted the internet connection out yet so I need to tell you this. She took the Stockholm White colour code to a British paint seller last week and made them break it for her. They had never heard of this colour…! Oh dear. Now she happily carried 10 L of Stockholm white home, tried it out and guess what happened?

I have nooooo idea! But she says it’s tooo yellow. So now she’s bought a huge bucket of snow hut white to mix it with. She might end up with the perfect wall-white now. We’ll see when she reports next. And of course, a bunch of fresh trendey home pics are coming your way soon.
