Cabinets and chests are the ultimate home decor items. The paramount pieces of furniture. Don’t you think? It’s highly useful and can add so much interest, style and character….I’ve tried to collect the chest, cabinets, etc we’ve featured during the years (hey, Trendey is turning 2 years old in August!) into an own category. When I think of if, we actually got two versions of IKEA:s Hemnes in our home. One glass-door cabinet that can be glimpsed in the background of this pic, and a wardrobe/cupboard whose doors I’ve painted chalkboard, changed the knobs on and added a tassel to (no pic, yet). A great low-budget alternative. Most of all though, I’d like one worn & vintage.

IKEA 2012 Catalogue: Earthy Rugs & Clothes at Display

The IKEA catalogue for 2012 is out, and it’s always very interesting to see what new things they have come up with. Last year, I both did a gender analysis (approved) and had a closer look at styling and trends. This new 2012 catalogue was not overly exciting imho, but these three pages/images caught my eye. I like it when IKEA takes some steps outside the typical Scandinavian style. Or rather, offers what this cool and strict style needs: warmth and coziness!

Warm and earthy, ethnic rugs! No news really, but I like that they are in focus.

And when it comes to bedrooms, clothes are not hidden away these days, quite the opposite…

Clothes, especially dresses, are decor. And among product news, I really like the curvy ISALA series. Over and out!

A nice kitchen!

This kitchen, featured by Sköna Hem, is similar to my idea of the dream kitchen. If you disregard the floor (I’d want either a nice tile floor or a rougher wood floor) and ignore the dining seating (I’d go for something similar to my previous post, added a sizeable kelim rug) – and – this is crucial – add the missing (or at least not viewable) stove, a big lavish signature piece (some delicious examples in my other kitchen post) Ok, and just one more thing: I’d take another colour (maybe black) of the fridge and overall spice it up a bit with e.g an unframed painting, some vintage items and a sweeping curtain. Now we’re about there.

A kitchen that’s spacious, functional and yet simple and not excessively expensive; the kitchen furnishing including the kitchen island in this pic is apparently from IKEA. Ok, now I just need a house ;)

Bojne – a cute chair

Yesterday, I got myself a new chair. It’s called BOJNE and is irresistibly cute.

It bears some similarities with the Wishbone chair, and most of all – thanks for the note! – it’s ‘inspired by’ Wegner’s Elbow chair. It gives me childhood memories. Think they had something like this in school, or maybe it was in the local church. Cute & comfy. Design by Nike Karlsson for IKEA.

Is IKEA’s latest ad genius or just plain peculiar?

Did you spot the news about IKEA’s latest UK ad yesterday? If not, you’ve got to take a look at the video below! IKEA has conducted an experiment which consists in releasing a hundred cats inside the Wembley (London) superstore at night just to see what they get up to… The idea of the experiment is to find out which furniture made the cats happy (ehh..hrrmm….) and to use the footage in the latest UK ad campaign (read more here at The Guardian). The finished ad premiers tomorrow on ITV1 during X Factor so if you’re UK based have a look and see what you think! Has IKEA lost the plot or not? Have your say in this weekend’s poll!

2011 IKEA Catalogue [gender analysis]

Words are really superfluous…..but: trendey not only care about styling and trends, we’re on a gender mission! Nah, not really. But home decor / interior design is gender-relevant. It’s not only women who like it. Not just women who have taste… Not only women live in homes (!) Not only women are parents. Not only girls helps to set the table. IKEA catalogue 2011 – you are hereby gender approved.

2011 IKEA Catalogue [styling and trends]

This is a IKEA catalogue 2011 roundup: some interior styling details, colours and overall trend themes. We’ll start off with a couple of styling features.

Examples of tricks we knew.. :p On the whole, I think the styling in the IKEA catalogues only gets better for each year. No doubt they are keeping pace with time. As for colours, IKEA fancies red and blue in particular the year 2011.

Good choices imho! Not too exciting and groundbreaking, but lagom (you know the Swedish word ‘lagom’? It’s like a National Word. Things must be moderate and pretty average, i.e.”just the right amount”.) With that said, however, the blue armchair might be a little too blue. Anyway, in terms of interior style trends the catalogue content comprises at least two more recent, apparent ones – a follow-up on the folklore style and a partially new industrial style.

A Touch of Boudoir

There is no secret by now that I am crazy for French-style carved headboards. I do not have one in my possession, but I yearn for them. Big time. However, I’m planning to introduce a little boudoir feel to the bedroom now that the new storage furniture is in place. Our bedroom, which is not altogether Stockholm White with naked windows – it actually has both dark wood furniture, an Indian style colourful bedspread, heavy red velvet drapes and lace. To this, I am thinking of adding a touch of ladies’room, where I can have a petite rest, relax the taut bustier and powder my nose wearing negligee …;) I actually did not find so many nice boudoir photos, they were all too white, but a string of the sensation can be found in these:

I will start at IKEA. Their Edland dressing table has been on my mind since I first saw it. Now I know how to use it. And another very nice IKEA product I stumpled upon is the Årstid lamp. It speaks Faded Glamour. Ok, here we go! Story to be continued :)
