Faded Pastels, Beiges & Greys

In spring 2012′s colour scheme, faded pastels, beiges & greys are the main ingredients. Dark graphite grey provide the contrast. Add wood (preferably blonde) and glass or transparents. So says the trend oracles. Typically springish & nice! Above pic is a shoot of our dining area; pics below via sköna hem & skeppsholmen.

Love this composition! This is actually the same home as in this post (taken nearly 4 yrs ago; it’s quite cool to compare two gorgeous versions of the same room, and see how tastes & trends evolve).

Faded & beautiful. Top-trendy for spring 2012 and a slightly granny-esque or Faded Glamour vibe.

Lastly, I think the grey wall in this kitchen below is awesome.

Things I Fancy Right Now

I adore this DIY:ed art in Jimmie Carlsson’s hallway! He has covered an old door in a bed sheet, painted it white and written all over it lyrics from the lovely Swedish song Öppna landskap. Cool. Pic via the blog komma hem.

I think this wallpaper is absolutely gorgeous. Almost like those granny-ish old wallpapers I went on about some months ago. If only I could find a place (or thing) to put in on, I’d get a roll rightaway, via anthropologie.

Dunno why I’ve started to fancy black cats all of a sudden! Might have something to do with Henen’s cat Blackie…A lovely print – I especially like the combination of colours and the eyes – from olive dear on Etsy.

Golden cutlery! How nice isn’t that! These are the best looking ones I’ve seen around, from Italian Seletti. And I really really like this spinwash tableware from Zara Home. I bought some wonderful soup/pasta plates in both this light greenish colour and in grey last week. In London that is, now Zara Home could you p-p-please open a store in Stockholm! Happy weekend everyone! Now I’ll prepare for Trendey’s Birthday party tomorrow :) See you.

Tävling and some kitchen thoughts

Ok, I know that first part of the title don’t make sense to you English speakers. But I have a giveaway, for those tall and fresh Vikings that can be found in Sweden’s population register only – explained at the end of this post. It’s a thanks for Trendey’s efforts as part of the jury in a contest held by Swedish-founded Electrolux with its home appliance brand Husqvarna: about designing your dream kitchen. You can try the thing out, look at Swedish peoples’ ideas on dream kitchens and give your votes here. Every week the four entries with the most votes are lifted out into the final. After next week, the jury designates prize winners among all the finalists.

Anyhow, this, again, got me thinking of my dream kitchen. Inspiration on kitchens is not scarce these days. There’s plenty of different styles around, although the industrial style kitchens and the good ‘ol country kitchens tend to top the league. Personally I favour a combination of the two – something like cozy industrial’ or ‘country sleek’. At the moment, I am very fond of the kitchen style in the previous post. To me, charm is key. And I really really like it when kitchens have decor details just like any other room. These pics are today’s inspiration!

Cosy Minimalism – Trend Theme AW11

The Stockholm Formex Fair is the largest trade fair for Nordic interior design, and we have a tradition of tracking their statements on future home decor trends. Before each season’s fair, Formex pronounce their trend predictions, and the current season (SS2011) was given the trend theme Glorious Mix. This season was the first I didn’t get at all what they were talking about. Or well, it was the new surge for gleaming shiny surfaces, the psychedelic patterns and the modern jet-set feel I couldn’t see coming. Maybe it’s here now, at its peak, in the middle of the season – it has nevertheless escaped my eyes. And most definitely escaped my home :p

For autumn/winter 2011 the prediction says: Cosy Minimalism. With influences from the simple and natural elements of both Nordic and Japanese design and architecture. The focus is on a warm and comfy atmosphere.

With disasters and conflicts increasing around the world we seek security in a cozy home environment that exudes warmth, companionship and care. We gather around a crackling fire and enjoy surrounding ourselves with timeless materials such as rough wood surfaces, leather, suede, wool and terracotta – robust natural materials that will stand the test of time and simply become more beautiful as the years pass. The design expression is elegant, austere and sculptural, with a masculine feel. This is softened and given a warm, cozy feel with the aid of attractive, tactile materials such as knitted and soft structured textiles in patchwork and layered designs. Classic masculine check patterns are combined with graphic stripes and geometric, ethnic motifs. You will find updated versions of tweed, glen check and tartan. The color scheme focuses on a warm and sophisticated palette. The base consists of saturated earth tones and beige tones inspired by wood and leather, complemented by wonderful warm red shades and a selection of brighter colors inspired by the vegetable plot. The metallic shimmer of copper in a variety of forms is the most interesting accent for the season. The interior design feel is modern retro, but with a new aesthetic mix that radiates a timeless and relaxed elegance. Warmth, harmony and balance are the catchwords for the season.

Allright, I can believe in this! Makes sense. Did my own little inspiration board below.

Eames DSW with numbers

I just have to mention these lovely beige DSW, spotted at Danish auction house Lauritz, as they are deadly trendy. I tried to buy some about week ago, but gave up when price rose too high. Too popular. Can’t keep a secret like this though!

These chairs were specially manufactured by Herman Miller for American soldiers stationed in Germany. Each chair has a unique number and since they were designed for outdoor use the seats each have five holes for rain water.

At the moment there are no active lots on these, but in recent auctions the hammer price has landed on approx. 4500 SEK | €500 | £440 | $720 | a chair, including buyer’s premium (on average; they have been sold in pairs, and sets of 4 and 6 chairs – smaller and more worn groups less pricey per piece). Coolness!

Update April 15th: You can right now find these chairs, in a slightly stone/greyish tone, at Blocket (i.e. Swedish equivalent of Craigslist). A March auction winner changed her mind.

Update April 19th: There are now two active lots at Lauritz; 6 stone greyish/rough ending at 27th, 6 nicer/beiger closing at May 2nd.

Update April 26th: Now there’s another bunch of them for sale at Blocket! The second regretful auction winner in two weeks (!) What happened. Did they think the chairs were nicer IRL, I mean they are actually quite scraped, worn and …grey? Hm. Let’s see how the April 27th auction goes-  those chairs have same kind of ‘unpolished’ condition like the regretted ones at Blocket….
