IKEA 2012 Catalogue: Earthy Rugs & Clothes at Display

The IKEA catalogue for 2012 is out, and it’s always very interesting to see what new things they have come up with. Last year, I both did a gender analysis (approved) and had a closer look at styling and trends. This new 2012 catalogue was not overly exciting imho, but these three pages/images caught my eye. I like it when IKEA takes some steps outside the typical Scandinavian style. Or rather, offers what this cool and strict style needs: warmth and coziness!

Warm and earthy, ethnic rugs! No news really, but I like that they are in focus.

And when it comes to bedrooms, clothes are not hidden away these days, quite the opposite…

Clothes, especially dresses, are decor. And among product news, I really like the curvy ISALA series. Over and out!

Spring is in the air!

Today I’m loving the light shining through and colour pops.

Scandinavian Boho-Chic

The style is some kind of bohemian chic, says Swedish fashion blogger and designer Elin Kling about her home decor. The walls (and some of the floors) are painted…….white……but this is not a typical ‘surgery room with kitchen’ – it looks lived in! A human home. The charming boho vibe is key in this stylishly decorated home.

The place is decorated with interesting mid-century furniture and findings from all over the globe.

I really like collectables of every kind. Here’s a nice collection of fashion books – love the atmosphere stacks of books bring! – and below is another collection, eviable, and glamorous: shoes! As high and uncomfortable as possible is the motto :)

Mid century meets bohemian modern…

..is how Victoria Smith of fantastic blog sfgirlbybay describes her interior design style. In an interview at the newly launched online magazine Rue (check it out, it’s a good read!), Victoria shared images of her new house along with decorating tips. When talking about the decor style of her new home, here some of what she said,

“I like the rooms to have a sense of humor to them, to be comfortable and cozy, but I wanted a more mature look…I like surrounding myself with bits of the past…Everything in my home is evolving, a constant work in progress”.

And doesn’t her home look great as a result! I really like the relaxed yet sophisticated look and the mix of influences in her style. In the eclectic dining room below, the Knoll chairs + rustic farmhouse table + 50′s style side cabinet + chalkboard black walls is a killer combo!

And isn’t the bedroom below beautiful? Normally I’d find the all-white approach a bit boring, but here the warm and shiny wooden floor and all the gorgeous furniture and accessories more than make up for it. I particularly like the bedding and the turquoise details – so pretty and very much on trend!

B&W Decor

I’ve got stripes, stripes around my shoooulders...

I rather like the impression of black & white stripes in decor. It’s classic, modern and stylish. Stripes work well in any style. How ever the trend winds blow. I love my b&w Bob Pappelina rug, it always fits somewhere. There are some b&w stripes around this Autumn, e.g. in the well-circulated pics above from DAY and Ferm Living. Always classic and an interesting style-break in many settings, right now I’d combine the black-white-striped details with grey, with colour schemes like these, added a bith of warmth.

Personally, I am not particularly fond of modern graphic patterns, I think they often have a disruptive effect. As small details though, they can be really nice..

For large surfaces, I prefer a white pattern against a black background rather than vice versa. These dramatic walls below are really cool I think. And and extra hello to the boho charmig magpies!
