relaxed kitchen atmosphere

Happy wknd! I’m into some serious redecoration right now. First coat of paint is ready in the bedroom and while waiting to dry I’m making plans for our new dining area. Let the creativity flow!

Fabulous Bar Style

Me and Henen had a refreshment break at this incredible pub in Upper Street, Islington. It’s called the King’s Head and is world renowned for its music and its theatre that is located in the back room behind the bar.

I love the eclectic and theatre-ish athmosphere! So homey and inspirational. The wall colours, the dark wooden floorboards, the stage lights, the velvet stools…. and the walls covered with photos and posters of the theatre’s many productions (it has enjoyed numerous transfers to the West End and Broadway). And of course the fresh flowers on each table. And the beer was excellent too!

A reintroduced Josef Frank Pattern

Speaking of art and patterns, I actually really like this old textile pattern by Josef Frank called Marble 4420. Svenskt Tenn reintroduced it today, in velvet, for the Stockholm Furniture Fair. Designers Förster & Kusoffsky also made some new products interpreting this pattern. It’s not a typical Frank pattern – they say, I think it’s Franky! – story goes it was sketched when Josef Frank had encountered the art of Jackson Pollock, during this stay in New York in the 1940s. By any means it has a fresh arty vibe. Almost graffiti-ish yet very tidy.

The Arty-Farty Trend

Art has always been crucial in interior design. This spring, along with the strong eclecticism and creative pattern- and textile mixing, there seems to be a special arty-farty movement going on in interiors. Art is prominent. Here’s a few of the many inspiring expressions around right now.
