Teal and white…

…is a successful colour combination. I think it looks both fresh and calming and I love how the deep and lush shade of teal (or dark turquoise) makes the white pop out. Red and yellow accents completes the look.

Yellow for Joy

Yellow has appeared previously in Trendey Magazine. Yellow is, like nearby orange, a warm and positive colour. It symbolizes energy, awareness, sunshine and joy. Pure, bright yellow is the easiest colour to see, and as it contrasts well it is the perfect accent colour. It has been said that yellow rather sings solo than in a choir. Much yellow, like yellow walls, can be too demanding, though it depends on the hue. Yellow goes from the lightest ray of sunrise to the strong shade of an over-ripe lemon, almost orange, and almost green. Yellow fits very well in modern interiors – along with black, gray, red, dark blue ….

Swedish/Danish Interior Style

This home was featured in a recent issue of the magazine Hus & Hem. Danes living in Sweden! Can’t you tell! :) It’s a mix of two closey related styles or let’s quite simply say: it’s the Scandinavian style. The Danish splashes of colour (foremost bright yellow and blue; colours of the Swedish flag btw) are resting against white walls and treated/painted wooden floors.

Most of the furniture is bought at flea markets in Southern Sweden. The front door is painted in a sunny yellow colour; whether go come or go it will make you happy! I’d say these bold colour touches are the Dane’s gift to Scandinavian home decor: Danes dare more.

Colourful Chairs

From time to time I amuse myself by looking at the current real estate ads. It’s one of few ways to see how people really decor their spaces. Or at least, decor it for selling. One thing I found spring-fresh and inspiring in today’s sneak is the use of colurful chairs. Strong and light pink, and mustard/yellow – in otherwise white-ish interiors. The pink and grey combination is super nice I think.

Turquoise – Pantone’s 2010 Year Colour

While Akzo Nobel chose a light airy optimistic blue for The Colour of the Year 2010, Pantone picked a combination of blue and green – Turquiose. Pantone claims turquoise is a colour that most people respond to positively; whether envisioned as a tranquil ocean surrounding a tropical island or a protective stone warding off evil spirits.

“With both warm and cool undertones, turquoise pairs nicely with any other colour in the spectrum. It adds a splash of excitement to neutrals and browns, complements reds and pinks, creates a classic maritime look with deep blues, livens up all other greens, and is especially trend-setting with yellow-greens.”

Saturated Nouveau Riche Paint

Today, the Swedish paint manufacturer Beckers launched their AW 09/10 paint collections. Inspiration is derived from three parallel trends: Eco, that connotes to the environmental awareness with beige colours in earthy tones, white and some yellow and green hues. The colorful geometry that communicates art and freedom, with sporty and happy hues preferably with metallic luster and graphical expressions. Last but not least (rather most!) is the focus on new luxury, nouveau riche. The new luxury paint has an unconcerned saturated approach, inspired by the newly rich countries’ (read Russia, China, India..s’) “carefree” attitude and fearlessness of colours. Here we find deep, bold and sophisticated colours accented by luxurious metals such as copper, gold and bronze. They also call it shabby chic, with a slogan that goes “just do it nice enough”.

Colourful ‘String Pocket’ Bookshelves

From 1949 until forever – the String bookshelf is a timeless piece of furniture. This autumn the String Pocket shelf will be available in four new colours.

The ‘String Pocket’ is a slim shelf for paperbacks, CDs and DVDs. With 2 side panels and 3 shelves it measures 60x15x50cm, and the price tag is approx. Â£75 (880 SEK). The pocket shelf collection has offered eight combination possibilities – with shelves in white, red, black and walnut.

From early October the current bright orange-red shelf will be replaced by a darker hued red, that together with a mild pink, a light blue and a bright yellow alternative, form the new colourful String Pocket collection.

Yellow Spots

As summer fades and evenings are getting darker, yellow is the perfect accent colour to illuminate our homes. No other color expresses hope and reassurance more than yellow. This was said when the Pantone Mimosa yellow was selected the Color of the Year for 2009. Bright sunny yellow, warm golden yellow, orange-and green hued yellows, they are all super-trendey sparkles ready to enlighten any interior.

Around a photo of a balcony (taken today @ Norr MÃ¤larstrand, Stockholm) I’ve gathered some yellowish favourites. Clockwise starting from 1 o’clock it is the Toldbod Pendant 120, yellow blossom, from Louis Poulsen, followed by Magazine Racks and the stool La BohÃ¨me by Kartell. From 6 o’clock going towards 7, a yellow Atelier Chesterfield and a Suzani Sprig Cocktail Napkin from Anthropologie. The Yellow Statue at 8 can be found in Supermarket Sarah and finally at bedtime, the Trollsta side table from Ikea.
