3 tips for kids’ rooms

Posted on 2012/08/31 by Mia in Childrens rooms, eclectic, Wallpapers

Speaking of a 3rd birthday – it’s time for some kids’ room decor! I think this pinkish room – found via sf girl by bay – is sooo sweet. An eclectic paradise for sure. For parents and kids – girls & boys – alike. Maybe I’d just remove the white thingy on the bench and attach the mirror properly to the wall. Next one, via sköna hem, is a small but charming nest I think. A kid’s own space in a city flat. Thridly, there’s a wallpaper pic, showing verdure by zoffany / photo by adrian briscoe. I included it to highlight the many gorgeous wallpaper options available these days. Especially for kids, with playful & imagination-promoting patterns like this one. This particular design – a lush pastoral landscape with a church and waterfalls -  is based on a late 17th century painted cloth that used to be nailed onto a wall.

Three Years of Home Decor Inspiration!

Posted on 2012/08/29 by Mia in Cabinets, Chests & Cupboards, DECOR PHILOSOPHY, Dining/Living room, eclectic, trendey homes

Trendey was born three years ago. To be exact 3 years and 9 days ago – it first saw light on August 20th 2009. Lots and lots of interior design nerdery has flowed under the bridge since.

In 2009 I was on the hunt for an apartment in Stockholm and my sister Henen looked for a house in London, UK. We frequently sent each other emails with interior design ideas. Just as blog posts actually! Uploading them to this site was (and kept being) a mere simplification. That’s the story of this blog.

Soon though, Henen got busy renovating her house, but I kept sharing my ideas and inspiration here. The name Trendey stem from our interest in trends, as an expression of our cultural surroundings. Trendey was also inspired by the, at the time, popular Swedish blogger Mogi. This creative gal had set up her own vocabulary, and in a youtube video (unfortunately taken down) she gave a hilarious lecture on contemporary words. One of her main conclusions was that she had spotted, or actually invented, a new trend: all words should end with -ey. ‘She’s Mogey and things are groovey or nastey’. This was just the week before Trendey was born.

And well no, Urban Dictionary hasn’t caught up on this language use yet. Actually, they say trendey isn’t defined yet.

That’s the point. The main thrill for me are things & styles having a peculiar character and decor standing out from the crowd even if only for the sake of it. Out-of-the-boxey. Undefined in terms of what’s supposedly right and wrong decor-wise. Such ‘rules’ are made to be broken. Creativity, personal expressions & homey homes makes me happy. And as Abigail Ahern is quoted saying: Good taste is all very well, but utterly pointless without a sense of fun.

Yesterday, Trendey got a new cleaner look. The primary navigation is by interior style. Pick and choose in the menu above and you’ll get a feed of such posts. During these blogging years – you’re looking at the documentation of my home decor journey -  I’ve scrutinized a wide range of interior styles. This width & depth in styles is, I think, Trendey’s best asset. You can still of course choose to only look at wallpapers, or bathrooms, or headboards, or frame groupings, etc etc, whatever you are looking for, by picking one in the footer – this place is very compartmentalized! Anyway, what I’ve personally enjoyed most these 3 years and 9 days – apart from all time spent drooling over gorgeous decor pics collecting inspiration – is definitey you. It’s been so much fun discussing pics & decor features with you all! Please continute to join in on discussions – I sincerely love to hear from you.

Blues!

Posted on 2012/08/27 by Mia in Bedroom, Dining/Living room, DIY Things!, scandinavian

There’s no secret I’m fond of blue. Blue-coloured home decor is indeed a popular topic on this blog – the tag blue actually holds 87 entries! I’ve been through quite a few blue topics (e.g I love the blues, blue for child abuse awareness and even the blue 2010). Ah well, it’s such a nice home decor colour!

The devil is in the details top left – via sarah greaves art – a magnifient DIY-tips for a frame,  and the other lovely inspiration pics via vt wonen. Blues never go wrong (almost)! This loveliness below caught me at first glance. A laidback & stylish bedroom via Finnish blog suvi sur le vif. Effortlessly created by blues.

Posted on 2012/08/26 by Mia in Birds & insects

Here’s my new beauty! A piece of fabulous textile art by Mister Finch. It has found its place on the mizzle-coloured wall; the one I started decorating in this previous post. An absolutely gorgeous addition making it all lots more alive <3

Dusty Pastels & Greys

Posted on 2012/08/24 by Mia in Dusty Pastels, scandinavian, Wallpapers

Speaking of wallpaper designs, this one named Wallpainting – in the collection Expressions by MrPerswall – I really like. Looks kind of perfect.

And the dusty-pastel trend is as alive n kickin’ as ever this fall. A gorgeous scheme from toast‘s aw 2012 collection:

Seems also, greys are. Especially monochrome, topped with wool & other textiles for needed warmth & coziness. Like in this pic found via trendenser:

Note the lovely plant! And hey, some of you have asked about home decor trends -> have a look at the drop-down categories in the top menu above, the one named “Trends & Tricks”. I’ve tried to gather bigger trends in subcategories. For now, I’d have an extra look at birds & insects, my favorurite granny’s wallpapers and the new wood + metal. Also other trendy details for more odd & small trends… and of course today’s topic dusty pastels. Happy weekend!

New Josef Frank Wallpapers

Posted on 2012/08/24 by Mia in scandinavian, Wallpapers

Do you like these? To the left is Eldblomman in a new, blue, colourway – and right the fairytaley print Sagoträdet. Svenskt Tenn has reconditioned Josef Frank’s wallpaper prints, and used traditional distemper printing in order to recreate some design features that had been lost and to adjust colors that had blurred over the years. Making it as close as possible to the original designs. They say Josef Frank – when we started his wallpaper designs back in 1947 – said that bold colours and strong patterns can ease the notion of a confined space. Even the smallest cobbyhole can become exciting with a striking wallpaper. And I find these two extraordinarly suitable for smallish spaces, like a little home workshop or laundry room. It would certainly cheer me up a lot to go and wash clothes in a room dressed up in one of these.

Arty Grungy Chic!

Posted on 2012/08/22 by Mia in boho, parisian chic, Wallpapers

Hello! Hope y’all are very fine. I’ve just recovered from a week’s flu and feel really renascent despite I’m still sneezing around quite a lot! Here’s a vibe that feels totally right & right now I think.

Firstly, it’s something very laidback yet lively with brick walls. And dresses (or other garments) as decor is such a splendid trick. Lots of storytelling in this pic I think! From the coveteur via sf girl by bay:

Isn’t it amazing how wallpaper design has evolved? I’m loving that the creativity seems endless. This wallpaper below named “abstract” from Mr Perswall’s new collection Expressions, is very exciting I think! It crossed a line.

And hey, there arn’t any hotter decor items than these textile toadstools by Mister Finch! Check out this textile art via Mr Finch’s blog / etsy shop. I noted his amazing bugs and little creatures two years ago in speaking of the – then – quite fresh botanical trend, and said I knew would get back to it! (a few days ago I couldn’t help myself from buying  a wonderful textile moth :)) This is as cool as it gets.

And lastly, to sum up, I just need to include this photo as it is one of the most interesting fashion shoots I’ve seen in a long time. Deadly cool, from (of course) the satorialist. Such a great play with proportions, totally translatable to home decor!

Have a groovy ending of August!
