Olympics Trend: Crochet The Hat!

20 Feb

The Swedish official Olympics hat has made remarkable success. Swedes of all ages are now frantically crocheting a thick cap of blue, yellow, white and black. Crochet tips are highly demanded as hat spread like wildfire on a growing number of heads. The pattern of the hottest trend accessory right here right now comes from the yarn shop Trassel (link to crochet pattern).

I really like the thought of Swedes sitting in their sofas crocheting like mad right now. And as for olympics hats, I fancy the Swedish Olympics hat of ’94 as well. Little did our athletes know their style would stand the times. Pernilla Wiberg in Norwegian Lillehammer:

    Hi there!

Glad you like it too! :-)

The clothes of the Swedish Olympics team - including the hats - are manufactured by the huge Chineese sports company Li-Ning (founded by one of China's most famous athletes). Design by the Swedish designer Eva Christensson, who has been responsible for the Olympics collection design since 1998.

The woman in the video, a crochet guru!, has taken out and publicized the pattern. Reports now come from different parts of the country that the 8' crochet hook is sold out and that there is a shortage of yellow and blue yarn. Rush came after several local newspapers published the pattern.

In the video she says 9-year-old boys have become fond of crocheting and fill up the yarn store. She is crocheting an Olympics hat in 2 hours, and estimates that for the inexperienced it will take about 5-6 h.

There is uncertainty as to whether the official OG hat has any suppliers or dealers (it most probably don't; except from official sponsors raffle etc.) This lay behind the strong sudden, and very nice I think! crocheting trend. May it be long-lived! :)
  • We over here in America and Canada love them, too! Do you know who made the ones for the team? We'd really love to know. Does it say in the video on this post?
