Step 1:  Collect old, found, new or forgotten boxes, crates or drawers in a glorious mix of colours and materials (perhaps some wallpaper in the bottom of a box or two?)

Step 2: Arrange in a creative pile and gather together with a colourful cord as in the pictures below (you could also nail boxes to eachother for extra stability).

Step 3: Hey presto! You will now have a really cool and artful storage installation of your very own making! :-)

I’m scavenging around for boxes at the moment because I want to make something like this. I haven’t got enough yet though (I only have one box so far!) I’d like to use really old and interesting-looking boxes, so I’ll have to do some searching. And perhaps I’ll include a wine rack also…hmm…or an old radio or safe? Well, shall have to see what I can find! :-)

Also take a look at these rather amazing creations by designer Tejo Remy for inspiration…

    Dear Henen,
since I saw the Tejo Remys creations (one year ago!) I’m trying to collect wooden boxes, drawers and wine racks to build my own storage installation. It turned out to be quite difficult! Nobody seems to forget or throw away this items anymore … I’m still looking for my collectables at flea markets – and I bought a bunch of new boxes at IKEA (the new “PRÄNT” boxes) just to turn them “old style” with some paint and pain :)
I wish you (and me ;) good luck with this project!
    Greetings
    Ickemixe

Thank you very much Ickemixe! Those links were really useful, I got some new ideas on how I might put it all together now. I love the look of the white frame and colourful drawers of many of the items from the first link as well as the more rustic/vintage look of some of the products from the second. I think I’ll aim for something in the middle – if I can figure out how to achieve it of course as I’m not much of a carpenter! BUT – I think I’m starting to see what you mean… it’s definitely not easy to find old and quirky boxes and drawers to use! I still only have one…hrrmm… If I don’t get luck in any carboot sale or second-hand shop soon, I might have to copy your idea and buy some new ones to “rustify”. Anyway, good luck Icemixe on your project – hopefully we’ll both get there in the end! =) Kind regards, Henen
