Cabinets, Chests & Cupboards

Posted on 2011/07/28 by Mia in Cabinets, Chests & Cupboards, Dark Painted Walls, globetrotter style

Cabinets and chests are the ultimate home decor items. The paramount pieces of furniture. Don’t you think? It’s highly useful and can add so much interest, style and character….I’ve tried to collect the chest, cabinets, etc we’ve featured during the years (hey, Trendey is turning 2 years old in August!) into an own category. When I think of if, we actually got two versions of IKEA:s Hemnes in our home. One glass-door cabinet that can be glimpsed in the background of this pic, and a wardrobe/cupboard whose doors I’ve painted chalkboard, changed the knobs on and added a tassel to (no pic, yet). A great low-budget alternative. Most of all though, I’d like one worn & vintage.

And I do love the Chinese cabinets. The ethnic/globetrotter vibe is irresistible.

Lastly, I really like this one with the botanical-black backdrop:

The Here And Now

Posted on 2011/07/08 by Mia in Collectables & Still Life, Cushions, Dining/Living room, ethnic, globetrotter style, Numbers & Letters

This is my fav pic from Living Etc‘s August 2011 issue. From Sibella Court’s Sydney home.

Described as a look that’s about personality, texture and the here and now. When asked to sum her style she says:

 flotsam and jetsam, globetrotting, bowerbird.

Oh my…I had to google them all! Well not globetrotting – one of the absolute trendiest interior design trends – but I learned flotsam and jetsam is refuse found in the ocean and bowerbord is like an Australian crow (I think). Each day you learn something new! And actually, from Sibella’s style one can learn more than some words. I spotted her new book is out, it’s called NOMAD and looks terribly exciting! Next week I’ll give myself time to read her guide to NYC, on the beach.

beigeish & soft relaxation

Posted on 2011/06/17 by Mia in Bathroom, Bedroom, ethnic, globetrotter style

This picture from the front cover of World of Interiors June 2011 issue really appeals to me. It steams vacation and relaxation. In an exotic faraway place (like Morocco :)) The ethnic/grobetrotter trend that smashed in late spring seems to have gone on holiday but I am convinced it’ll be back full furce once it’s Autumn.

I tried to find a song for these lovely moody beigeish interiors – via from the right bank – and keep thinking it’s something by Anna Ternheim. What does your ears tell you?

New London Style – An Inspiring Book

Posted on 2011/05/24 by Mia in Book Reviews, Frame Groupings, globetrotter style, Kitchen

The last couple of weeks, my regular sources of inspiration (such as magazines, blogs, etc) haven’t injected the regular dose of excitement. I think maybe I’ve had a bit more than I can chew :) Nevertheless, during the year passed I’ve decorated more than ever. Had more creative thoughts than feasible. Our home is funnier than ever! And over and over again, I find new inspiring books. This is one of them, published in 2008: New London Style by Chloe Grimshaw; photography by Ingrid Rasmussen. Just next to Undecorate in my compartment of favourites, this book features the homes of some of London’s most exciting young talents from the music, fashion, design and art scenes.

The interiors have been put under the heading “New London Style” but it’s not a showy parade of ‘taste’ nor a rulebook or instruction on pretty – it’s a book full of creativity. I adore the kitchen above, it gives me so much inspiration! I’d take it right-a-way…Many of the interiors are pretty simple, or rather effortless, relaxed. With my love for beige-ish walls, I think this scene is lovely.

Though superbly edited, it’s the charm and sensible personal choices (i.e. the photos!) that matters in this book. Style varies throughout the book, and there is no glossy quest for perfection – which makes it spellbinding to study: there’s something interesting to consider in almost every photo! Like this one, who lives in this room below?

Globetrotterish Bathrooms

Posted on 2011/03/22 by Mia in Bathroom, eclectic, ethnic, globetrotter style, SS 2011

The latest issue of Elle Decoration (April ’11) has global theme – the globetrotter style of decorating is trendier than ever – so let us, this late March evening, groove on some globetrotterish/etnhic/eclectic bathrooms. Being a Swede I’m starved of nicely decorated bathrooms…! For some (inexplicable) reason, we have a tradition in this country of ignoring that part of home decor. But: bathrooms are rooms too :)

Scandinavian Boho-Chic

Posted on 2011/03/01 by Mia in Collectables & Still Life, globetrotter style, Other trendy details, scandinavian

The style is some kind of bohemian chic, says Swedish fashion blogger and designer Elin Kling about her home decor. The walls (and some of the floors) are painted…….white……but this is not a typical ‘surgery room with kitchen’ – it looks lived in! A human home. The charming boho vibe is key in this stylishly decorated home.

The place is decorated with interesting mid-century furniture and findings from all over the globe.

I really like collectables of every kind. Here’s a nice collection of fashion books – love the atmosphere stacks of books bring! – and below is another collection, eviable, and glamorous: shoes! As high and uncomfortable as possible is the motto :)
