Late Summer Goodies!

Posted on 2013/08/10 by Mia in AW2013, Bathroom, boho, country, Curtains, Dining/Living room, Drinks Trolley, eclectic, ethnic, globetrotter style, Mild Wall Colours, Rugs

Hellu! :) Hope all is very fine and that the summer has been sunny & relaxing. It’s been a while, so there’s lot’s of decor inspiration coming up! I couldn’t choose between a bed- or bath or living-roomed themed post, or a countryish or eclectic, so instead here’s one big bunch of pics that’s burning hot at the mo – when late Summer is turning into fall.

homedecor

Firstly, it’s a great idea to keep the summer intact inside with some floral fabrics and/or happy colours. Loving this – trendy! – color scheme. Greys and colour sparkle (left pic via French camengo, a fabric named “portobello”;  right via the Dutch home decor inspiration vtwonen ). Moving on to…

elledecoration

…my fave pic, in the latest issue of my fave magazine (i.e. Elle Decoration UK), September 2013. Again, I’m loving the fresh new scheme – dusty pink with greenish grey –  lovely with some copper details and also there’s a trend spotting alert here: Floor patterned rugs. Or well, floor patterns in all forms! And hey, the ikat pillow is gorgeous, don’t you think? I just bought one yesterday for our bedroom, with an orange ikat pattern (at Bromma blocks, a shopping mall in Stockholm). Now let’s stop for a while and indulge in these beautiful floors….

beautiful tiles
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate Moroccan tiles. I’d say yes to these two floors without an eye blink! Left via sköna hem, right via unknown source (if someone knows, please tell me). Gorgeous. Why – in the whole wide world – choose white or beige or any other boring tiles when you can have this beautifulness?

This is from the cover of another of my other fav magazines, Elle decor. You can not really tell whether it’s a rug or the floor – anyway, it’s nicely patterned! And a great combination of colours. Loving the pile of books and the other details too (like the drinks trolley!).

These pics above are just so nice, I think. Symbolising how walls vs still life can work wonders together.( Left via vt wonen, right via hus & hem). Lastly….

Gorgeous Swedish Country Style

Posted on 2012/11/07 by Mia in boho, country, Dining/Living room, Frame Groupings, globetrotter style, Kitchen, scandinavian

Sometimes, or quite often really, I dream of a house. A nice big house with at least 6 rooms. Perferably near a lake or the sea and with lots of trees and garden life around it. I love old Swedish houses! And I think this kind of decor style fits them gorgeously well…Some walls painted in lovely hues and I’m home :)

Spring 2013 Home Decor [and Fashion] Trends

Posted on 2012/11/01 by Mia in boho, Clothes & Shoes, eclectic, globetrotter style, nature & urban farming, SS 2013

Don’t you think it’s time for some Spring 2013 trend spotting? I do! And here’s a first little round, guided by some fabulous SS 2013 catwalk ladies. Firstly, a sophisticated and cool copper/nature style.

According to Formex – one of my usual places to turn to when sniffing for trends – the Spring 2013 interior design is strongly influenced by nature. Shades of white, brown natural tones, wooden surfaces, rattan and other simple, natural materials set the foundation for the fresh new trend theme named ”Fresh”. Above photo from the excellent December 2012 issue of vogue living.

There are colours too – thankfully! This coming season with a new take on the pastel palette. Some soft pastels combined with brighter hues. Like this lovely combo of pink/purple, orange and soft blue (pic via sköna hem). Western chic (pic via hus & hem) is another touch I like. Wood & rattan against a dramatic black backdrop.

This is a hot and interesting colour, I’d say it’s unpolished spicy fudge. Acne fashion leads the way (with pic via bodie and fou). A great linen colour. Colourwise, the pic below left (via vtwonen) also represent a fresh taake on the pastels. Light green, almost pistache, together with grey (almost lilac). Lastly in this round, never underestimate the playful nerd. A great kid’s room decor DIY trick (pic via boligmagasinet) – just paint the hotscoth course on the floor! Creativity rules, still.

Have a lovely November!

Sthlm Style

Posted on 2012/09/26 by Mia in Dining/Living room, eclectic, Frame Groupings, globetrotter style, scandinavian

To me, this is somewhat typical (trendy) Stockholm style. The white backdrop, with some wood elements, and stylewise some distinct retro & industrial influences. And the globetrotter is there, in a poster and a throw that says New York, and an ethnic-patterned cushion. A creative vibe. Liking it! | pic via reimersholme fastighetsmäkleri |

Mixed Folk Tiles

Posted on 2012/09/13 by Mia in boho, eclectic, ethnic, folklore, globetrotter style, Wallpapers

Tonight I’m having lots of Hallelujah moments!  I’m finding treasures, one after one.
I can’t believe I’ve missed this wallpaper named Mixed Folk by Louise Body. It’s pure gorgeousness.

I’m a huge fan of Moroccan tiles and the folksy vibe of these just thousandfold my love.

A wallpaper with such a  nostalgic, charmig, warming and interesting look…!

Nomad: A Global Approach to Interior Style

Posted on 2011/11/14 by Mia in Bedroom, Book Reviews, DECOR PHILOSOPHY, globetrotter style, Wallpapers

Or Nomad – Bringing Your Travels Home is the title of Sibella Court’s latest book. It’s a photographic collection of travel shots and styled spaces. She has globetrotted and treasure-hunted to Japan, Italy, India, Syria and Mexico. Each place make a flavour with colour palettes and misc. stories. Room settings are inspired by ideas, photos and mementos, showing that any decorative background can be restyled with travel touches.

I realized I haven’t written a review about Sibella Court’s book Etcetera, but in comparison, Nomad is (imho) much more interesting. While Etcetera represents what I regard as typical Sibella Court-style – the glass jars, treasures from the bottom of the ocean, and ethnic-eclectic on smokey white vintage backdrops – Nomad takes a global step forward and delivers insprition from all over the world, still Sibella Court-ish and very likeable. My personal favourite among the exotic interior travels in the book is, at least after a first glance, Mexico!

Decorating a home is – like many other things in life –  a journey. But one needs not go travelling all around the globe in order to embrace the globetrotter approach to interior style. No tickets needed, just open this book and indulge! Or any other book, or movie or people’s home or nature or whatever inspires you. It is actually, in Sibella Court’s words, a matter of seeing things in a new way. And bringing it home. Sibella’s decor philosophy is about adding and subtracting, rearranging and recycling, transforming and rethinking a space to reflect your personality, lifestyle and adventures. The ideas can be as simple as painting a wall or creating a new ‘art wall’ or layering different textiles on your bed or hanging a new piece of fabric over your window. What the book Nomad wants to do, and does, is help open your eyes and fuel your imagination. After all, decor is all about stories and things reflecting you and your life. After reading Nomad, I feel the need for a touch of Mexico in my home.

And I’ve updated my top 5 of places I’d like to travel to:

  1. New Orleans, Nashville & Memphis (by a big American car, listening to Townes Van Zandt and June Carter)
  2. Clearwater Beach, Florida (for a loooong sunny vacation)
  3. Paris (been there once, 20 years ago; must go back and stroll along the bridges nighttime)
  4. Sri Lanka (the land of my brother-in-law)
  5. Buenos Aires (to exercise the Argentine tango)

Where would you love to travel? And would you bring it home? :)
