chest of drawers w leather handles

Posted on 2011/09/04 by Mia in Cabinets, Chests & Cupboards, DIY Things!, trendey homes, With a Coat of Paint

Just a quick note to show my redesigned IKEA drawer. Unfortunately it’s no longer in their range, and I have no before-photo, but I found a pic here: It used to be black-brown and had black metal handles. I painted it ‘tie white’ and the new handles are made of the following: A vintage leather belt ($5 cost) cut into pieces and 14 new screws ($2). I used the old bolts and the pre-drilled holes.

More DIY to follow. Happy week!

BEAUTIFUL ! :) What a change! I love the new look. Did you get the idea for the handles from the Tine K collection?

The handles are 200 swedish kronor each !!

Hi Maja my dear – and thank you! :) I got the idea from a picture I saw somewhere, didn’t realise they were actually for sale – so, MANY thanks for the link! Might be those pics I have seen.

200 SEK ($30) for *one* handle is amazingly expensive…and the bolts & screws aren’t even included, it’s just a piece of leather strap.

Excellent work! LOVE it. Great idea to use a belt! What kind of plant is it on top? In the lovely golden flower pot!

Thank you, Charlotte! :) The plant is a Dr Westerlund – a pelargonium/geranium with lemon scent. Or will be in time, it’s an outgrowth of a cutting I bought from a lady. I really like Dr Westerkund because Grandma used to have them. Rumour says it’s a medical plant. It is named after a doctor who used to advise his patients to keep one of these in their bedroom. And the pot is a favourite of mine, it’s called “Hortus Brass”,  designed by Josef Frank in 1938. Many thanks for commenting – have a great week!
