Pretty Pansies in Pots from the Past

Pretty Pansies in Pots from the Past

At my latitude one may have to wait looong, almost until summer, to put out beautiful flowers on the balcony. But there is an amazing plant – the pansy – that despite its splendor actually can stand some splashes of April snow and occasional sub-zero temperatures. I house my brave beauties in flea market bargains: e.g an copper bowl that in the old days used to carry coal, and a worn and torn old chocolate box.

There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance; pray,
love, remember: and there is pansies. that’s for thoughts.

Bosse stool goes twisted

24 Feb

Aren’t chairs and stools the funniest decor pieces of them all?! I think so. In our kitchen we have a table by the window for fast breakfasting chews whilst watching the traffic on the bridge outside. To sit on, we got 2 IKEA Bosse stools. Bosse is small and handy, seat has a hole makes it easy to move. Here’s what I chose for personalizing our Bosse’s: the cool pale-blue hue havsbris (“sea-breeze”) and the warm light sand-yellowish hue strå (“straw”) from the Alcro Design Collection. Painted with a twist.

I’m not influenced by the Olympics and the roar popular hat, I promise..!! But I recognize the colours are hot these days (at least in my home country :)) There’s plenty of inspiration around, I got mine from images of browsing past. Think I fell for the light yellow colour on the cover of the book Cheap Chic (an excellent book btw) and various funny stool and chair ideas blogged, such as paint company Beckers’ inspirational photo via the blog Husligheter and Chair Personality Socks from Charles & Marie via High Fashion Home Blog. And not to mention the lovely Wood & Wool Stools. Imagination is the only limit when it comes to chairs and stools!

Our Vintage Sofa!

5 Nov

sofaandchair

Here it is! Our looovely 2nd-hand sofa and chair! It’s from an old Swedish brand called Lani (AB Larsson & Nilsson), that used to manufacture style imitations. In this case: rococo. I can’t wait to set into place in the new living room!

Some time ago, I confessed my love of the Day Home-sofa. I still have a passion for it (we do have a distance-relationship still) but it turned out it’s an impossible love affair. I went to a retailer, I test-sat the couch, I touched the velvet, I thought, felt and decided: Yupp, we take it! This is the one! Though, everything aint easy when it comes to picking the right one. It was a wolf in sheep’s clothing! I had fallen for a prototype! To my surprise and, of course, great disappointment the lovely warm purple-aubergine-plum hue that I adored was only the prototype-colour. Production colour is a colder, more blueish purple hue. See? Not the same.

On the bright side? I saved four thousand bucks! Our superb vintage-findings cost only a tenth.

A New Home!

22 Oct

Finally, Mike & I have bought ourselves a new home. After months of seaching, looking, calculating, bidding, loosing, starting all over again, hoping and getting desperate, we found and got our dream apartment. We are so happy! It has 2 bedrooms (of which one will be a combined study room and guest room), a kitchen and a spacy living room, a bathroom, and a balcony! Here’s a sneak peak on the Master Bedroom from the real estate ad. I love making fires (Mum knows, I used to do that as a child..;)) and to my great amusement our new home has a (for now non-functioning) tile stove.

Great news is, starting from around Christmas (when we get access to the apartment) we will no longer need to write hypothetical and theoretical posts on home decor, DIY-projects and things we would love to have. Now we can and will show you what we actually did and do, what we’re planning to do and the results :) Lovely, right? We can start to use the hitherto unused category trendey homesi.e. pics and projects from our own homes @trendey. And once Henen and her husband achieve a result in their, equally hard and time-consuming, buying-a-house-project in London, we will have a _massive_ source to pour from. So, stay tuned… :)
