The images are crisp and perfect. The colours of the collection are beautiful. Rich and earthy reds and browns add elements of warmth to the predominantly black and white colour scheme. Soft wood is also in the mix as is the background colour…”blueish gray”? Don’t know what to call it, but surely there’s a better name for this colour? Whatever its name though, I love it. Definitely would go for that on my walls.

Now, from the collection,  if I was twist-my-arm-forced-to pick just three things, I think I would get this black desk with storage…

Above are details from some lovely rooms featured in Danish magazine RUM June 2010 issue. To the left, pillows made out of ponchos from Peru and rugs from Iran and Yemen create an inviting and homely ethnic/folk traditional look. To the right, a startlingly interesting space (a circus wagon in fact) is made even more interesting by the pretty and colourful folk art textiles. I’m warming up to this style, which is all about handcrafted textiles and furniture, patterns and multi- colours.

Black conveys elegance and sophistication. It denotes strength and authority and it’s also a colour associated with death and mystery… Black gives the feeling of perspective and depth, and contrasts very well with bright colours. As a background it gives a sharpness and clarity that is hard to beat. As a wall paint though, it is seldom used at home. Or hasn’t been yet really – just wait to see what this autumn has to say about it. There are numerous shades of black, whereof the softer toned ones, like dark charcoal grey, and black velvet and suede are particularily interesting.

What colours suit black? I guess there are as many opinions on that matter as there are personal styles. No rules. Personally I am very fond of the combination soft black-grey, powder-rose and crystal/glass. And a touch of gold or copper. I’d put some sharpening black items, like the sofa above, into this scheme to enhance the soft luxurios athmosphere.

…and pastels with extra spice in bedrooms as well as living rooms.

To use step ladders in home decor is not a new thing, but it’s surely well suited for outdoor decor. Not least on a balcony, to use height. Enhance the summer with tropical colours!  Why not paint a an outdoor wall candy pink? And further emphasise the tropical summer feel with details in green and orange…An outside mirror (bottom photo, left) is decorative. It gives an illusion of space and with colourful furniture it will set a tropical, yet urban vibe. Let your home decor-thoughts, e.g. for a living room, follow you outside. Comfortable chairs and sofas, and decorative details such as lanterns and butterflies (bottom, right)….

An excellent, neat and ûbertrendy example of the interior-goes-outside-trend can be found in the summer house of the writer/entrepreneur/ journalist/blogger Alex Schulman on the island of Gotland. Wall art, details, decorative lighting and even a wall shelf. A magic garden room!

50′s interior design style is burning hot right now! It has crept up slowly with just the odd 50s design classic here and there, like the string bookshelves and the Eames rocker for example, but now the interior design world appears to have fully embraced this decade as a source of inspiration. Here at Trendey we see more and more room designs with strong influences from the 50s (such as the pic above). 50s style is characterised by clean simple lines, rounded edges and a celebration of form as the focus of design. Some of my favourite 50s style items would be a simple teak drinks trolley with smooth curves, a cuddly radio set (so retro cool it hurts) and above all the super chic PH lamp (if only these ph-antastic lamps were cheaper! :))

The colour of the pistachio nut, a pale but strong yellow-green, adds interest and is very useful in home decor. This is especially the case with the trendy light shades of pistachio. From being matched with in particular browns (e.g. nougat) and combined with lighter woods such as birch and pine, not to mention its pastel neighbours, pistachio has now changed friends to gold, copper, brick and steel. Hot acquaintances are also caramel, pinks or a touch of some kind of orange. In the hallway below, the structured pistachio-coloured wallpaper and the monochrome dresser get sparkle and harmony from the pink wase, the sofa chairs, a brick wall and the gold and copper details.

In bathrooms and in kitchens, light pistachio is always fresh. Below, in a combo with white, steel, green plants and a touch of orange.

As for home decor trends the upcoming season, trend theme states:

Simple furnishings, no showing off. Go with what you like in a delightfully personal, slightly crazy mix. Get rid of any burdens. We furnish our homes to match our way of life; loves, impulse purchases, faithful companions and old memories combined with brand new and home-made items. Country accessories mix with urban influences. Handicrafts and a studio feel are still super-current. For colours, look for 1950s pastels and bolder colours. Delicate patterns, checks, stripes and flowers, with shades of grey as a base.

Formex, by virtue of its size and impact, usually have a nose for trends. To not say, set trends. I am *happy* with the direction mapped out in the autumn theme. It’s a spin on what is trendy right now, adding an extra scoop of freedom, friendliness and optimism.
