Lush Urban Nature Style

Friday August 27, 2010

I’m drawn to the lush atmosphere in these rooms. Urban yet green and fertile. The granny vibe and those unexpected branches in the lamp are crucial elements: It’s fresh and botanical, and at the same time urban eclectic. The bathroom below in particular, has such a snug healthy feel it makes me want to jump right into that tub and stay for days.

A Light Nautical Touch

Monday July 26, 2010

I’m not so fond of one continuous marine style, but injecting a few nautical details in any other style can add lots of fresh interest. A bit of sea breeze and ancient fishing village vibe. I think this boat chandelier below is one splendid piece of decor, and the wallpaper right has a fine boho charm in a mild and light kind of way.

I just got back from a trip to Northern Sweden now where I’ve visited several cozy flea markets and made the best of bargains..! More about that later. Next on the agenda is – tada! – a trip to a picturesque little Italian fishing village. I have a feeling a good deal of interior design inspiration is awaiting there. In addition to the warm sun and sea, for our Swedish heat wave is now replaced by cold winds and pouring rain…In the meantime, keep enjoying fabolous Henen, the other half of the Trendey duo, serving you the uniquest and trendiest decor inspiration!

A Friendly Atmosphere

Friday July 16, 2010

Oh my, I’m boiling over with inspiration..!  Could it be the heat wave? ;) Posting and posting…I’m not always like this (!) Below, a room with, I think: a friendly atmosphere. A bit ethnic, a bit boho and clean light wood to bind it together.

…and speaking of friendly. On behalf of me and my big sis I’d like to extend a huge THANK YOU to lovely Emma who told about Trendey on her excellent design blog. We sincerely appreciate that and your great intro! Any new readers visiting from Emma’s – you are very warmly welcome. I hope you feel at home here, browse around, find some inspiration, agree or disagree with us, and every now and then check back. Stay tuned. :)

Brown – Wholesome and Earthy

Wednesday July 14, 2010

Brown is such a used and useful colour – countless images would be needed to represent all the styles and atmospheres that is dealing with brown! Whether brown is used in a nature style, ethnical, traditional or any other style, it’s a multi-functional colour. Just think of all wood and leather, which is largely involved in the brown range. Brown can for sure be a stabilizing colour. It’s a natural and neutral, wholesome and earthy colour. Brown can provide a snug, homey and secure feel in a room. Now here’s some inspiration on brown.

The Botanical Trend

Tuesday July 13, 2010

The botanical trend has been around for a while. We’ve seen botanical prints, botanical wallpapers, textiles and other botanical decorative items. Bees and butterflies have buzzed around. So has owls, birds and some creepy insects. Australian stylist Sibella Court bears some responsibility for the latter (see bottom of pic collection for exemple). The setting for the botanical vibe has to a large extent been green-beige-natural. A bit like this:

Now how, if at all, will this trend theme evolve. Abigail Ahern suggests in an Entomological way. With big fat, delicious looking bugs crafted from vintage and contemporary fabrics sitting on window sills or crawling up walls. In other words, more insects! It is also likely the botanical-entomological will creep into more styles, making a twist or edge to urban and even glamorous/chic styles. Below left are the mentioned ‘delicious bugs’ (soon to be included in the Abigail Ahern collection) and a photo by Damian Russell to the right. Insects sneaking in to fancy rooms…

Update: I now know (thanks a million for commenting!) that the artist of the ultra-cool insects in the photo is Finch. If you check out this site (and the category ‘insects’) you will find so many yummy little lives a warning is hereby issued: if you let too many insects move into your home it may transform into one of an entomologist! ;) And furthermore, under ‘props’ (a huge craving-warning here as well), you will find neat & trendy images including some stylish birdhouses and the next to the last image (with the ships), oh gosh..and I haven’t mentioned the ‘animals’ yet. This is a side-track on beautifulness we’ll surely get back to.

Green for Balance and Stability

Tuesday July 13, 2010

Green symbolizes nature, growth, fertility and life. The colour of the forest is said to be the most calming and reassuring of colours. There is no coincidence hospital walls are often pale green. Decor-wise, green has never held a strong trend-position – it is a colour that’s always there, always has been. Green is a grateful not to say perfect colour on interior details and single furniture items, because it’s a colour that provides balance and stability.

Dining: Warm as Sun – Cool as Sea

Monday July 12, 2010

We have tropical temperatures in the cold North right now! The mercury is stable at 90° F, the sun roasts and you yearn for the blue, blue sea and lapping waves. This contrast is useful in home decor – the hot and the cold. Sunny yellow and cool blue-turquoise for dining..

Urban Nature Style

Tuesday June 29, 2010

A well-balanced mix of nature and city. I especially like the birch tree-table and the owl…

Let the sea and nature inspire!

Wednesday April 14, 2010

The sea has the most beautiful shades of blue. And nature knows how to match colours. Nature and sea are wild and free. Ideal starting points for home decor!

Petroleum is a naturally occurring beneath the earth’s surface. The treasure chest of our times. The petroleum blue hue, ranging from the colour of the deepest sea to the look of a rainy summer sky, is always hot but from time to time it rises and shines a bit extra. Like it’s doing this season.

Early Swedish Spring – Outside and In

These photos above were taken almost exactly a year ago, in Northern Sweden. (Nowadays, living in Stockholm, most photos depict streets and buildings). EARLY SPRING. Counterparted below with room inspiration [from house to home]
