An absolutely amazing kitchen wall – gorgeous mix.

This picture is from the cover of Homes & Gardens November 2011 issue. What a spark! The colour scheme is so attractive. And I suspect the botanical prints will survive (and develop) a few more seasons to come – not least because they are part of the trendification of the countryside and the popular urban farming-thinking. The only thing I immediately would like to change in this room are the matchy-matchy lamps (and the cushion arrangement – it screams precision and control). Gorgeous sofa spotted. Now, at this time a year, one only needs to look out of the window to get inspired. Nature’s wonderful display of colours surpasses every other source of inspiration.

Although it’s not this red in Stockholm city today, the inspirational beautifulness is significant. Moving along to the November issue of Living Etc, I think the use of red in this blue paradise is as excellent as can be…

And the copper, dear copper, is a crucial element. Now who’s not thrilled by a tango? Its dramatic energy, sensuality and power totally symbolizes red. (Comes to mind I actually went to Argentine tango classes some 10 years ago, believe it or not!).

Lastly, one more red masterstroke to look at. These lipstick red panton chairs (pic found via A Beautiful Living) are in my opinion what makes this kitchen wow instead of ok, nice. My future house will no doubt contain a pair, maybe not as mysteriously placed as these (guess it’s simply for relaxing while food is cooking), but I do like the unconventional vibe it entails.

And yeah, it’s the colour of the year 2011.

Oranges and reds! Together with gold, copper, brass and 70s yellows… (and charcoal and clay). And may I add to this pic, the trendiest style. Hodgy podgy and homemade. Sightly odd but lovely. Pic via Plaza Interiör. This kitchen below, in a Spanish farmhouse, really took my trend breath away….Full marks! Orange is a suberb accent colour, in particular when paired with copper & gold. Now if you don’t believe me, ask Gwyneth. What makes her happy this season is orange, perfectly combined with smoking red shoes.

Such an easy way to add interest to a kitchen: a dark painted wall, a painting and a distressed chair.

Blonde wood goes so well with blues.

Autumn season is ready to bloom and it’s an exciting time ahead now. This coming weekend, the largest meeting point for nordic interior design – the Formex fair – will take place and Trendey is invited to cover it. (As said before, this season’s trend theme is Cozy Minimalism – i.e. a contradiction in terms)) I don’t know about you, but I am really ready for some new influences now: Interior scenes not seen a thousand times already. These two pics, from September issues of Marie Claire Maison (first pic), and Style at home (2nd pic) do thrill me a bit.

A nicely decorated kitchen! I do love the ethnic vibe and the use of different tones of green and pistachio. A slight touch of industrial and the oddish objects on the selves complete the style. As an update, I just found this kitchen below and felt an urgent need to add it here (it’s Isabelle’s at Dos Family, click in for more detailed views).

I love the mood and it has also that new vibe. The tiles are gorgeous and the decor so exciting.
Below, black walls with frame groupings taken a step further as the collection of artwork is very expressive and, let say: well-travelled. I hope to see more of these interesting and dynamic globetrotterish/ethnic styles in the months to come. And I long for more folklore!

The house tour continues in the kitchen! When we moved in, the kitchen was tiny and very outdated, so to create a larger and more user-friendly kitchen we knocked down a wall to combine two small rooms and opened out the chimney breast to make room for the range cooker (which I love because it’s got so much oven space!). It was an excruciatingly dusty and noisy job and I’m really glad it’s over. But it was all worth it of course because now we have a spacious and modern kitchen which makes life just a bit easier and cooking a lot more fun!

View of fridge-freezer and pull-out larders. We don’t normally have that much wine, but I won auctions on three boxes full of wine so now I’m rather unexpectedly rich on wine, if not money.. :-)
Dining room. My favourites here are the vintage empire-style chandelier, the Chinese cabinet and the cute Polish “Cyrk” poster (my birthday gift). This room turned out a lot more traditional looking than we had initially envisaged – mostly because of the period features already in the room and the antique furniture finds we laid our hands on along the way. Decorating can be quite an exciting journey – you never quite know where you’ll end up and often mistakes, path-corrections and chance discoveries can make the end result a lot more interesting than what you had in mind from the start! :-)

Finally, check out the lift below. This is brilliant – I only wish it was a real lift which I could take up to the loft! Sadly it’s just a trompe l’oeil wallpaper from style-your-door… Highly recommend this for a boring piece of wall actually – it certainly brougt some fun and colour to the disused door under our stairs :-)
