I don’t know about you, but to me these sofa/living areas below are very appealing. The first is an exercise in interior design well done. The perfect symmetry, the colour balance, texture..and the play with scale. It hadn’t been at all this interesting if it weren’t for the undersized chair. And of course the stool and the lovely lovely flowers. The last pic is just beautiful. Again, summer loveliness!

The retro trend shows no signs of cooling off – quite the opposite! In 2011, we love things retro, calling on 50s and 70s mainly it seems, but all decades from 70s and further back are having a groovy revival. One single retro detail (like a vintage radio, retro phone, etc), some pices of retro furniture or full mid century nostalgia – all variations are present. I love this space, from the home of Hilda Grahnat. It’s interesting, laidback and pretty – and smashingly trendy.

I even spy a rag rug! And I love the license plates. I actually have a really nice German temporary license plate saved from when I went to Germany in 2006 and bought myself a car. It has been hanging in my father’s garage since but some time ago I brought it home and it’s now standing on a kitchen shelf! (And actually, my father revealed Henen had taken the other one!! Had no idea, cool we were both hunting number plates. And Henen, of course you can have my other plate, good there are always two)) Also, I really like this wallpaper below from Sanderson‘s 50s collection. It reminds me of the beloved Granny-style wallpapers I used to hunt (without result, may I add. Though I still dream of finding an old house with original wallpapers intact). Anyhow, a nice composition this one.

Lastly, a fresh retro-ish space via Style by Emily Henderson. Rarely have whiskey looked this neat! A great and so harmonious display on the sweet retro cabinet. And the tree/greenery – I love it that houseplants and flowers are visiting interior scenes again. Not a decade too late!

Friday it’s Midsummer’s Eve! I will go the midnight-sunny North and I will collect seven different wild flowers and put under my pillow to sleep on. Always have. (and never remembered what I dreamt!) See you when I see you.

I’m in the midst of re-decorating our bedroom and the inspiration folder gets bigger and bigger…! Just as it should be. I like the idea of making new use of beautiful old frames. They are good just naked & empty but every now and then you see inspiring uses around, e.g as a frame for jewelry or as a framed chalkboard. The trick can be varied endlessly, creativity is the only limit. Today I’m inspired by this version below; an old frame, some fine-mesh chicken wire, a bunch of mini-clothespins and the sweetest memories attached.

Ethnic and globetrotterish styles are top trendy in 2011. With items from around the world, exotic textiles and eclectic harmony this is one ultra-inspiring home!

It has been said ethnic/global styles will be top trendy 2011. There will be a lot more on the etnic interior style theme in the year to come I can promise you, but as a starter I have the ultimate style example. Speaking of finds from around the globe, exotic textiles and that smashing eclectic harmony it cannot get any more inspiring than this!

It’s ultra-trendy and no surprise an interior decorator lives here.

The bench beneath the breath-taking painting is vintage gymnastics equipment.

This is what a home office looks like á la 2011 ethnic style! And below, a globetrotterish room for kids.

After many weeks of packing and moving out and moving in mayhem, I’m finally beginning to settle in in my new house. At last I have the phone and broadband sorted and my new study/office at least partially decorated! Quite a relief after many days of sitting on a stool in front of a make-shift desk made of moving boxes trying to get a dongle to work for more than ten minutes in a row:-)

As I’m a big fan of black walls, I decided to make the walls of the room I spend the most of my time in (except for the bedroom and the kitchen) this colour. I went for Farrow & Ball’s “Off-Black” and I really love how it turned out! In some lights and next to pitch black items (as below) it looks like a lilac-y grey…

…whereas most of the times it just looks like a mellow black or very deep grey. More on this room once I manage to get some more furniture in! On display at the moment are some colour-bursting Mexican fairy lights and vintage finds like a pink Victorian arm chair and my gold-rimmed H. Next is to get some shelves and storage furniture in place, must go shopping!

When I saw this pic in the latest (Jan 2011) issue of Style At Home I got a the spendidest idea. I’ve got a white desk and I have a pair of white old cowboy boots that I used to wear in early 00′s which are now stoved away – much loved and saved for sentimental reasons. How cool wouldn’t it be to dress a table leg with one beloved boot, and maybe also let an interesting sock pop out?! Sadly my dream was ruined already after one round of thoughts, because how twisted wouldn’t the desk be with one leg a shoe-heel higher than the others..Bah. And I am pretty sure my BF wouldn’t be so pleased if I cut off one leg 2″. Works for flat shoes though!
