Cudos to Chemex Coffee

This weekend I had my first cup of chemex-brewed coffee. Delicious! I used freshly ground Kenya AA beans, and the result was the best coffee I’ve had in years. No giant step from my usual coffee making – which used to be a plastic filter holder placed on top of a cup – but a lot more refined. And hey, with the clean mid-centrury modern design – a blond leather band corseting the hourglass curves, it’s so stylish! Verdict: Chemex is found well worthy of its hype.

Chemex coffee

Invented in 1941 by German doctor of Chemistry Peter Schlumbohm, recognized as one of the best-designed items of modern times in the 50s, and honoured a place in the permanent collection of e.g. the Museum Of Modern Art, this retro piece is both spendid American design and excellent functionality. Schlumbohm is actually quoted saying “with the Chemex, even a moron can make good coffee.” I think it’s true! and maybe he had his hunches this invention would be ultra-trendy in the capital of a land far far away (Sweden) in the end of year 2011, at its 70th birthday :)

Update Nov 30th: I just noticed Anthropologie now has Chemex’s in their range! I guess it isn’t only Stockholm trendiness, then. It’s a wave.

Things I Fancy Right Now

I adore this DIY:ed art in Jimmie Carlsson’s hallway! He has covered an old door in a bed sheet, painted it white and written all over it lyrics from the lovely Swedish song Öppna landskap. Cool. Pic via the blog komma hem.

I think this wallpaper is absolutely gorgeous. Almost like those granny-ish old wallpapers I went on about some months ago. If only I could find a place (or thing) to put in on, I’d get a roll rightaway, via anthropologie.

Dunno why I’ve started to fancy black cats all of a sudden! Might have something to do with Henen’s cat Blackie…A lovely print – I especially like the combination of colours and the eyes – from olive dear on Etsy.

Golden cutlery! How nice isn’t that! These are the best looking ones I’ve seen around, from Italian Seletti. And I really really like this spinwash tableware from Zara Home. I bought some wonderful soup/pasta plates in both this light greenish colour and in grey last week. In London that is, now Zara Home could you p-p-please open a store in Stockholm! Happy weekend everyone! Now I’ll prepare for Trendey’s Birthday party tomorrow :) See you.

Summer House Dream II

Hepp, I got a second summer house! In my mind…that is. A green oasis and energy booster retreat! It has the loveliest windows (above, via igotasweettooth), cool details such as the vintage lamp (via etsy) and loads and loads of fresh flowers and lively popping colours:

And of course, a huge huge garden, almost a forest. With some seating areas here and there.

Mm, that’s my summer hideaway!

botanical-inspired dinnerware

Just imagine how many gifts Prince William and Kate will get tomorrow…! They probably won’t have time to look at even a fraction of them (!) Apparently, Lord Lieutenant of London has accepted a gift on befalf of the royal couple: a dinner service from the iconic Hungarian porcelain manufacturer Herend. It’s especially created for them as an interpretation of the original Victoria design – which was first purchased by Queen Victoria at the Great Exhibition of London in 1851. Let me whisper I didn’t like really it, (hope they do!) you can see a picture here for example. Anyway and on the other hand, I think the 1851 original Queen Victoria butterfly design is absolutely stunning. Imagine a summer table set with these…

This old design makes me think of all the nice botanical/etymological- inspired dinnerware I’ve seen around lately. After a long cold snowy winter summer is finally calling – and I guess that makes butterflies, bees and parrots more tempting than ever. Like these lovely plates, from Antropologie:

I also love Lou Rota’s tableware collection. I might feel a tiny bit scared eating on a plate with creeping black bugs on (wouldn’t you?), but I would for sure enjoy finding a handsome crow or a few friendly green beetles after finishing a nice meal…

Not to mention how stylish, fun and quirky table settings plates like these could form. Delicious!
