The industrial vintage look…

Monday August 2, 2010

It’s Monday evening and besides trying to figure out what to have for dinner (fried salmon and salad maybe?), I’m busy musing over the industrial vintage design style. I really love reclaimed vintage industrial furniture and fittings! So trendey! They’re rough and ready and full of history. Rusty metals, steel and brass, old wood and squeaky weird contraptions… cool and quirky. Reminds me of some of the items from the DAY Birger et Mikkelsen’s AW 2010 Home collection actually.

Anyway, before I get giddy with hunger, I’ll leave you with these images rounded up from across the web to show you what industrial-shabby looks like to me:

Bohemian colour explosion!

Saturday July 24, 2010

I find these images fun and inspiring. What I like best is the yellow/deep pink colour combo and the granny-esque lampshades (I so would like a bedside reading lamp like the pink one! :)) However, while I would love to stay in a boutique hotel or visit a friend’s home which is decorated like this, I don’t think I would like to copy this interior design style wholesale myself. Mostly because I want more modern design classics in the mix and am not overly keen on quite such colourful walls, but also because I know I would struggle to get away with it as my husband would absolutely hate this style ;D

Pure White

Thursday July 15, 2010

White is innocence, cleanliness; the “colour” of perfection. The mother of life. Fresh milk, crispy cold snow, and fluffy cotton clouds on a summerblue sky… White heals, liberates and purifies. However, it can make a room feel naked and bare. White is eyestrain. People who work in bright light in white rooms have become blinded and suffered from fatigue damage. As a background for other colours though, white is striking. It’s easy to change colours in a room that has white as a base. A broken white colour (like the “Stockholm-white”) is sometimes the better option since it allows space but is more pleasing to the eyes. The white walls-or-not-debate is a common theme here at Trendey,( just ask Josef Frank what he thinks .) so for variation I give to you some white details.

Interesting Lighting

Thursday June 10, 2010

Just three picks of interesting lighting going on right now. Since time immemorial, I do believe, people have appreciated the splendor and grace of crystal chandeliers. This one, from the portfolio of stylist Lili Diallo, has the very interesting shape of an old ship.

In the Department of Chandeliers, colourful, pearl-based and not least the gypsy-style versions have become increasingly popular. This turquiose empire chandelier below was featured in House Beautiful.

Another recent boom is copper. This over-sized copper bowl of a lamp was featured in Italian Marie Claire.

I like them all. How about you?

Vintage Glamour and Beyond

Saturday April 24, 2010

To me, lighting of this kind is pure beautifulness. Antique empire crystal chandeliers is my no 1 in the lighting compartment. In a boho chic setting, mixed with modern decor, in a playful eclectic atmosphere or just anywhere! It’s vintage glamour and beyond. You won’t need much more, it makes the job. And it can do many jobs.

the light bulb dilemma

Thursday April 8, 2010

Have you got into this trouble yet? A neat chandelier with a…. clumsy bulb… giving a cold white light? I note the problem scary often these days. Pic above, in a Spanish restaurant. In jurisdictions all over the world The Light Bulb as we know it, is phased out and eventually being banned. The aim – energy-efficiency – is of course good, but is the world getting both colder and uglier? Nah, I haven’t come across any yet, but sure you can feel safe designers are in full work making beautiful and permitted light bulbs. Can’t you? Ca..? Edison, world needs you and your ideas on how to reinvent and re-design an environmentally responsible, warm, non-tubey or spiral, classy fresh light bulb.
