The Odd Chair Mix – How To
Although it’s been some years since the first trend-spotting of odd-chair-dining I’m still intrigued by it. There is so much variety; from deep-laid and all too perfect ‘chair exhibition/miss-matching’ to the flea market hodge-podge look. And somewhere inbetween is the imperfectly perfect mix that seem to have just happened. So how do you do it? There are quite a few good advices around: stick to one colour, let shape be the joint element, mix traditional with modern; have a common thread but don’t make it too obvious. Can you throw any old chair into the mix? No.
Well…YES You Can! There are ‘rules’ about this concept, but remember it all started with rule-breaking. Why would you be creative and fun and break one design rule just to adhere to another? Of course a common denominator in the matching choice will bring harmony (if that’s what you want) and too much miss-matching will make it more inscrutable and interesting (or even like a strange chair parade). It’s in the eye of the beholder. And either way, I cherish the idea and the freedom. I guess the only way to get the perfect odd-chair-mix result – in your very own taste – is by doing. If I were to give an advice I’d say take the chairs you really like. They will have something in common.

Discuss!Grellow Chairs
…are absolutely gorgeous for spring! I just stumbled across the hatfield grellow rocker (from CB2, left) and if it weren’t for the shipping cost to Sweden duplicating the price for it, I’d order one straightaway. I love rockers. I’m also hooked on Danish Nordals metal chairs, especially the ones in yellow and green (right). They’d cheer up any interiors. I’m thinking of making one of them a black sheep among white chairs around the dining table, they are perfect for that. Spring candy!

Dining Spaces
I’ve just dug into my folder of dining area inspiration. A plentiful and varied chapter! I still favour the mix-and-missmatch idea when it comes to table and chairs, but there are numerous ways to do it. And a zillion ways to make this space inviting and appetizing. Now here’s a few for inspiration.
And some more.

Ouch… these pics from the home of photographer Emily Mccall are so nice I just have to post them (although they have been posted today already by both four walls and a roof and style made simple). I confine myself to the two pics that made the biggest impression, first the living room…..
White wire chairs have never ever looked this good! Together with the sacred expression given by the window decor, the painting…the pure white together with the chunky leather sofa – it’s something intriguing about it all. The dining area, below, is smashing too. The Panton chairs joining that beautiful table is an excellent case on how to boost the rough (or antique) table + sleek design chairs-combo.

These first two weeks of 2011 I’ve gone from not knowing who Dexter is, to full addiction. Mike bought the first 3 seasons at London Stanstead on the 2nd, and now (at 16 th) we’ve watched all available series…(i.e. 60 episodes) Can’t wait for the sixth season! And I can’t help but love Amy Lau’s Dexter chair, above. Hand-embroidered with blood design. Lost original source of this table decor inspiration below, but it’s just…..bloody marvellous ;)
