Next item on the list of neglected rooms are bathrooms. I.e. said from a Swedish point of view. Tile and re-tile…! We do believe bathrooms must be sterile. Reason for this is unclear, but it certainly has its historical explanation. Yes, we are a timid bunch! Pic below, my dear readers, I appoint the typical Swedish bathroom.
A random pick from the site that aggregates current real estate listings (Booli). White, fresh and clean (sterile):

Okay, surely there are variations. The use of colour, the spa feeling, yet head-to-toe tiled bathrooms are still the finest, most exclusive. The main problem is presumably not the all-over tile, key issue is the ample lack of decor. The squariness.

Is not it very cozy to lie in a bathtub in a sensible place…. with colours, living materials, a homey feeling? A lively, friendly environment? Yeeeah, I certainly think so! And the trend is pointing in that direction.

…it says: Let inspiration flow! Bathroom is a room too!!

Lovely pics! As always, great inspiration.

I think in might have an explanation to the lack of bathroom decor. If you rent your flat, or own a flat, you do not want to ruin the tiles – cause cracks and holes by putting up pictures, etc. You can not paint the tiles (!) or put up a wallpaper on top of it. Possibilities are limited. For that matter, you are prohibited from having a bathtub in the bed room or living room.

Funny bathrooms are, at large, reserved for those who live in a house that they own.

Hi Hanna, lovely to hear from you! And I think you provide a lot of the explanation there. If it’s already tiled, it’s too late, unless you manage to hang paintings etc with adhesive/glue or something.

Wet rooms_ need_ layers of moisture protection not to mould and so on. A boring fact! But I do think there are ways. Step 1: avoid white! ;) step 2: put some nice furniture and lighting in there! step 3: there are other shapes than square! :)
